Hi from Frankfurt, watching from home. I am a Meindle boots fan. It is fun to start from Valenca, cause it is a cool old fortress and you can walk across the bridge into Spain at dawn, which is stunning, I think I lost about a kg on my 7 week Camino, but usually don't lose any weight, cause I graze all day long. Choc. croissants, empenadas, croqueten, ice cream, etc. What ever looks good at the cafes, then the big Pilgrim menus. Hope to meet up with you again some day. Having knee problems and not sure if I can walk another Camino or not. Thanks and Happy Days.

Hola from Australia I think a lot of people are afraid of taking alternate routes. They look at the guide books and tell themselves that is the way they have to go. They book their accommodation for the whole route before they leave home. Unfortunately they don't leave themselves enough flexibility to find their own Camino and take the alternative routes. My understanding about the protests isn't so much about tourists but about the lack of infrastructure to support the influx of people. This negativity impacts the locals in relation to housing, public transport etc.

I agree with Ricky... Pilgrims are in a different mind-heart space... I will begin to walk on September 1st!

"Topo" is a word for "place" and used in words such as topography or "topo map" used by backpackers. Topo shoes were designed by US running athletes.

The more I learn of what I got myself into, the more I am getting nervous., and excited, but now nervous. I am only now learning about the "body, mind, spirit" stages of the Frances. Poncho person here. You're going to sweat whatever you wear, but you'll likely sweat less in a poncho because its airier. For those who don't know, GoreTex is a scam and will not prevent you from sweating just because it's claimed to be breathable.

Nope. I heard about it from a coworker and I was like, "That sounds awful!" But, then it kept coming up in little ways and then I got hooked on the idea of doing it. And it was not awful but not great, but I am going back again! 🙂

Hi! What do you thing about those shoes for Camino Portuguese: Columbia Vertisol Trail Hiking Shoe? I'm preparing for my first Camino next year. I think that I will walk only the last part of the route, because of time limitation. Is the last part of the route is beautiful?

I am doing the Camino Ingles in the last few days of September and first 4 days of October. Hopefully the crowds have thinned out by then. I am taking a light sleeping bag and rain jacket and umbrella "just in case"
